Lady Express Hockey
The Lady Express was a travel ice hockey team that competed in the Florida Women's Hockey League. As a founding member of the league, we provided our teammates with an opportunity to play against women, throughout the state of Florida, with similar skill levels and the core belief that hockey is fun!
The Lady Express Hockey Team started with one goal in mind – to allow all players to play the game in a fun, non-discriminating, stress-free environment. The team was never been about winning. There were no try-outs – there were no cuts. Every woman was given a chance to skate on this team! All that was asked of each player was to step on the ice, try her best and have fun. We were a purely recreational hockey team that played for the love of the game.
That being said, it was decided that for the 06-07 FWHL season, the Express would take a hiatus and play in one final game up in Daytona -- sort of a Farewell Tour. This was done so that the Hockey Group of South Florida -- parent group of the Express -- could work on developing a house league based on the philosophy the Express was founded on. This decision, as difficult as it was, has created Girls Night Out Hockey -- the ONLY hockey here in South Florida, that provides hockey to women all year 'round.
